The 22q11 European Solidarity Movement was held across Europe on November 22, 2024. As every year, November 22 marked 22q11 Day, a great opportunity to raise awareness among the general public and specialists about 22q11 syndrome by illuminating iconic buildings in red.
22q11 day in Europe
Cities across Europe united to shine a red light on their iconic landmarks, raising awareness for 22q11 syndrome. Belgium, Spain, Finland, France, Italy, Poland, Nederlands, Serbia, but also Philadelphia (USA) and CN Tower (Toronto, Canada) and more joined this meaningful initiative.
A solidarity movement beyond Europe
The red buildings brightened up many cities in Europe and beyond : buildings were also illuminated in the USA and Canada. For several years now, the city of Philadelphia in the USA has been lighting up its buildings in red, in support of 22q11 day. Since 2021, Toronto, Canada, has joined this international awareness movement by lighting up the CN Tower in red. An incredible international solidarity movement!

A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved for the support and commitment
Thank you to all the private and public organizations for lighting up their buildings in red. Thanks also to all the citizen initiatives, to all the people, organisations and hospital structures who shared information and poster or took part in the day by dressing up in red! Your efforts are helping us spread awareness of 22q11 syndrome and its symptoms, ensuring better understanding and care for those who need it most.
Social networks in red too!
During 22q11 day, several organizations also joined the movement on their social networks.
A great opportunity to raise awareness and communicate
22q11 Day is an important opportunity to shed light on the syndrome and share as much information as possible. Raising awareness among the general public and healthcare professionals on a larger scale is crucial, as it can lead to earlier diagnoses. An early diagnosis of 22q11 can significantly improve the quality of life for individuals with 22q. Besides, early awareness allows parents to prepare more effectively for the arrival of their child, enables healthcare professionals to tailor treatments more accurately, and helps educators create a more supportive learning environment.
